The earliest clear memory that Scott Summers has is the crash. His mother frantically attaching his parachute to him and his brother, tethering the two of them together. Her final words to him, 'protect Alex.' Her pushing them out of the plane as his father frantically tried to regain control. The explosion. Red light flooding his vision and the sound of his own scream. And then silence, darkness. He would later wake up to a whole new world, and in the trauma of it, his life before that moment all seems hazy and long gone.

When he did come to, he discovered a few crushing new realities. First, his brother had been lost, as only he was recovered near the wreckage of the plane. His parents were both presumed dead, and he was being transferred to an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska. He also had a condition that required that he wear ruby quartz glasses at all times. Light sensitivity, the doctor's said. And so Scott waited, constantly looked over by foster family after foster family. Too old, too gloomy, too serious. He eventually resigned himself to living the rest of his life at the orphanage.

It wasn't until he met the Professor that Scott felt any sort of positive hope for his outcomes. Professor Charles Xavier visited him at the orphanage, and eventually the kind man offered him a wardship of sorts, to leave the Orphanage and join him at a school for gifted youngsters like himself in upper New York. Scott was unsure what exactly made him gifted, but he liked the
Professor and was eager to get out of Nebraska so he agreed. It wasn't until he got to Westchester that the totality of Xavier's plans revealed themselves. What precisely "gifted" meant.

Recent Events

-Scott has recently returned to his duties as a full-time X-Men member after a short sabbatical in Alaska.

Systematic: A lot of Scott's reputation for being a stick-in-the-mud goody-two-shoes comes from his dedication to systems. He believes in doing things by the book wherever possible, not big on improvising. By extension, as a field leader, he expects that people follow protocol, operate within the guidelines set out for them, and to keep their noses clean to the best of their ability. Doing things by the book is the only way that Scott gets things done.

Loyal: Scott is incredibly loyal to people that he believes in and loves, almost to a fault. His own well-being and life itself is forfeit if there is anything that he can do to make things better for others. His sense of loyalty and honor is such that there is no pain more deeply felt than when someone betrays that trust.

Idealistic: Scott has completely bought into the worldview of Charles Xavier, that the world can live in harmony between mutants and humans. He assumes the best in people until proven wrong, and often will try to find the way a bad situation can be turned into a positive, "learning experience". This perspective has historically bitten him in the ass, and some might call him naive, but he has also sometimes given the right people a chance when no one else will. That doesn't mean he'll go easy on anyone, simply that he has hopes for them, even if they aren't always said out loud. Hard exterior, softy inside.

Tough: Scott isn't always the easiest person to like, especially if you're under his command; sometimes, he actively makes it difficult. He expects a lot from people, and while he knows when to push and when to step back, he also happens to think the former is more common than the latter. He isn't afraid to praise when earned, but he also will expect more next time. Of course, in social circumstances his "fearless leader" gimmick will die down some, but he still isn't much for broad affection.

Character Sheet

Optic Blast
Scott Summers was born with the mutant ability to shoot a concussive force from his eyes, referred to as an optic blast. While bright red in hue, the power is not heat based, despite being converted from solar energy, but is rather a purely forceful push similar to a battering ram. The full powered blast is pretty substantial, able to tunnel through mountains and pierce through most major metals.

Unfortunately, without assistive tech his power is completely uncontrollable, pushing anything in his natural field of view away at a high velocity. Scott has no natural way to stop his optic blast other than closing his eyes, and the only material known to stop it is ruby quartz. A visor has been created to help him while in combat, as well as sunglasses. However, if he's ever caught without, things can get very messy, very quickly.

Scott is immune to his own blast, thankfully for his eyelids. Close family relatives also seem to be immune, including his little brother Alex. His powers are fueled by solar radiation; if he's actually held out of any sort of solar power for 72 hours, he stops producing any sort of optic blast.
