Power Man

Growing up the son of a Southern Baptist preacher tends to breed miscreant children. Carl got into all sorts of juvenile delinquent trouble, culminating in him getting popped for boosting a car at age 17. The judge gave him the option of going into Juvie or the military. Carl, urged by his parents, chose the later.

In the Marines, Carl learned discipline and honor and it awoke in him a supreme feeling of duty to his city and their people. Serving one tour, he left the military to return to Savannah and become a Sheriff's deputy to continue on with serving the people Thankfully, Luke (or Carl Lucas at the time) grew out of it and thought to improve and protect the streets he grew up on. Unfortunately, all his good deeds got him was framed for a crime he didn't commit and thrown into Seagate Prison. There, he was forced into sport fighting if he wanted his incarceration to go smoothly. The only saving grace was the prison psychologist who won his heart, Reva Connors, whom after he got into a spot of trouble that left him near-dead, ended up saving his life by getting him included in meta-human testing that left him (after some sabotage) with super strength, impenetrable skin, and in the wind.

She helps Carl Lucas become Luke Cage, respectable bar owner before dying in a questionable bus accident that left him gutted.

Recent Events

Last year, his life changed dramatically. It all started when Luke saw coverage of the trial of the Winter Soldier\, and the testimony of Jessica Jones. It raised some questions about the death of his wife, and so he contacted the detective to help him find out the truth surrounding her demise. Following Jessica to Wakanda because he felt like she was being evasive, he got caught up in helping her free Bucky Barnes from Black Panther. While there, Jones confessed she was responsible for Reva's death, mentally compelled by Kilgrave.

From there, they developed a friendship that was wrought with fighting to protect New York City from a host of enemies, including Wilson Fisk which resulted in Fisk burning down Luke's Bar. (He's had to spend the last year rebuilding with the help and funds of Danny Rand). The last straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the destruction of Hell's Kitchen. Out of this, a rag-tag group of vigilantes became friends and those now known as the Defenders.

Warm and even charismatic, he's generally just a Nice Guy. Though he's had a shady past, he genuinely seems intent on doing right by his neighborhood of Harlem even if that means bending a few standard rules to get things done. With a propensity to put others before himself, he's apt to mislay his trust from time to time. Oh. And don't mess with his bar. He's really defensive of his bar.

Character Sheet

Healing Factor

On the off chance that Luke should be injured, he heals quickly, up to 3 or 4 times faster than the average human.

Impenetrable Skin

Standard ammo, needles, blades, even acid - none of it can puncture his skin and wound him. Added to his ability to withstand impacts, bullets will crumple, blades will bend and bones can break if they strike him.

Increased Stamina

What might make others wear down, won't even cause Luke to break a sweat.

Uber Strength

Luke can lift roughly up to 10 tons, especially when his adrenaline is high. With this strength he can also bend metal, break through concrete, and bust restraints. In addition, he can withstand falls from great heights and impacts. The increased muscle strength allows him to jump greater distances than the average human and run fast when he puts his mind to it.
