David Alleyne was born in 1997 to Christopher and Dorothy Alleyne. They lived
in Chicago, in Hyde Park. From early childhood he was recognized as a prodigy,
gifted in pretty much every field to which he put his attention. He could read
nearly before he could talk, do algebra and calculus by the time he was five,
played the piano, violin and trumpet with some skill, danced ballet, was a
great little gymnast…

He could easily have advanced through several years, even a decade or so of
school, but his parents refused to allow it. They were of the opinion that
skipping years of school implied missing important years of social
development. So he plodded through, bored with classes, but making friends
along the way. Though clearly the smartest of them, other students tended to
like David — he was good at sports, funny, and humble enough not to do
everything right when others were watching.

His sister, Kimberly, was born when David was nine. He doted on her and adored
her. Though made comments as though she were a pain when she got older. This
was appropriate big-brother behavior.

In high school, though he still wasn't allowed to graduate ahead of his class,
David was allowed to start taking college courses at the University of
Illinois' Chicago campus. In his junior year his perfect grades and stellar
abilities came to the attention of a campus branch of a notable mutant hate
group. While they had no proof that he was a mutant, he was outed as one. In
truth, David hadn't realized until that point that he WAS a mutant, but it
certainly made a lot of sense. To protect himself and his family he enrolled
in the Xavier School.

He graduated a year and a half later and went on to study at Empire State
University where his years of college credit earned at UI and two years of
classes brought him to the point where he could graduate with a dual
bachelor's degree in history and computer science. Now he lives in New York,
visits friends at Xavier's regularly, and is considering tackling another
degree, while working days for somewhat more than minimum wage.

Recent Events

David has been actively campaigning against registration, and recently won Supergirl to the cause. He also worked with Gwen Stacy to free Secret from captivity.

David Alleyne is an intelligent young man with a cool, rational mind. He's
generally easygoing, treats the people around him with kindness and decency,
as long as they treat him similarly. While he acknowledges himself to have
more skills and knowledge than pretty much anybody around him he does not
allow this to go to his head — based on information he's been given, the
result of allowing himself to believe he knows best could be deadly to himself
and the people he loves.

David has, over time, come rationally to the conclusion that to save many is
not worth killing a few. He does not kill and, while not a pacifist, goes out
of his way to cause as little damage or injury as possible. He puts reason
over emotion, and is an advocate and activist for causes that are important to

David is bisexual, but more interested in women, generally. Politically he
leans heavily democrat and socialist.

Character Sheet

When David studies a skill he has absorbed through his powers he can learn the skill, though it requires time dependent on the complexity of the skill.

Simple skills can be retained by spending about twenty minutes a day in cursory study of the subject or spending an hour siphoning the skill from somebody who has it. This takes about a week. By the age of two, David had learned to read, do basic math, and knew every episode of 'Family Matters' (up until it became the Urkel Show) by heart, because these were simple skills his parents had, and he was exposed to them nearly twenty-four hours a day, every day. He might have had these skills sooner, but simply didn't have the physical ability to manage them.

More complicated skills, like algebra, learning a foreign language, or playing a musical instrument, take about an hour a day of study or two hours of exposure to the skill for a month. David was put into gymnastics lessons and started playing the piano as a child, and within a month he could tumble better than anybody else in his class and play some fairly complicated Joplin rags (not to mention Billy Joel and Elton John pieces) because he had regular exposure to his teachers.

In the end, if David is exposed to any skill for a few hours a day for a year, he can learn it. He has set out to learn skills he feels will be useful and important, but knows he cannot learn everything.

David gains the skills and knowledge of people who are within about 120 yards of his position. These skills are only temporarily available to him, though time and experience have shown that the skills remain locked in his subconscious mind and that the more exposure he has to people with those skills, the more he uses them and studies them, the more he retains.
