Nothing really happened in the town of Deerfield, Illinois. A good time was going out into the cornfields and looking for Crop Circles. As such, Kitty grew up a bored and lonely girl, too smart for her public schooling and too poor for her parents to afford private schooling. Though she took refuge in the small public library in their town, she was convinced that she would live and die there without anything interesting ever happening.

And then, she started to get headaches. She was in junior high school and her parents thought that it was just nerves. She had taken a lot of coursework upon herself and even attempted to audit a few classes at the community college in anticipation of AP classes. That along with her chores on the farm made her parents simply assume that it was exhaustion. They took her to a doctor, to the emergency room and no one could explain it properly. They gave her parents a lot of medical jargon which amounted to the idea that they didn't know what was wrong with her.

It was during this trying time when Kitty was nearly bedridden with headaches that she met Charles Xavier. It was not a chance meeting. As the headmaster of a special school for children, he was interested in what he knew to be Kitty's burgeoning mutant powers. He offered her suspicious parents an offer they would be hard pressed not to accept - permitted that Kitty accepted. He would give her a scholarship to his extremely prestigious school. It was essentially a free ride. And, almost as a carrot that was too good to be true, Xavier promised that he would be able to help Kitty with her crippling headaches.

As Xavier insisted, he met with Kitty personally and alone to explain his true purpose for his visit. He told Kitty that she was not alone. What her parents did not know was that her crippling headaches always proceeded a very strange occurrence. She would simply pass through a wall, a floor, whatever she was relying on for support. After that, the headache would pass. For the most part, she had managed to hide it from her family, but Xavier convinced her that if she were to accept his offer, she wouldn't have to hide who she was for the rest of her life. Other people had developed strange abilities and those people found a place to control them and use them for a good cause had a safe harbor. That place was his school in New York.

Funnily enough, Kitty was more worried about her education than the ability to control her newfound mutant powers. Once Xavier assured her that education was just as important to him and his instructors as abilities, she agreed to attend his Xavier Institute. With all her extra courses as well as her intellect, she qualified for a sophomore at the Institute. Just as Xavier promised, her education is an important part of her life there. But, she is also learning how to properly use her blossoming powers there both offensively and defensively.

Eventually, Kitty graduated with honors and attempted to figure out what to do herself. She remained at the school before she found out that her father, in his business dealings, had somehow fallen into strange political mires and disappeared while in Tokyo. Determined to find her father, Kitty traveled followed him to Japan. Unable to make any progress by herself, she eventually came across Ronin Ogun. Sensing Kitty's natural ability and her mutant power to allow attacks to pass through her, he thought he had found a perfect warrior. Convincing her that he was there to help her find and could find her father, he started to hone her martial arts skills. He taught her about the ninja and the samurai and she quickly picked up the skills. He was a harsh and demanding teacher, often berating her and beating her down to prove that he was the one in charge.

During her training, at one point, she was sent to fight one of Ogun's enemies - the man known as the Wolverine. Through multiple fights, Logan started to convince Kitty that Ogun was using her and had no interest in finding her father. The pair eventually fought Ogun and while they defeated him, he disappeared, leaving no trace and - as Logan intimated - absolutely no way to find her father. Crushed, she still searched until his dead body was eventually found in a hotel. There were no leads, no evidence: only a body to bury. Despite extensive and exhaustive searches, everything led to dead ends.

Recent Events

Grieving, she returned to the US to bury her father. Then, with a new purpose, she returned to Westchester. She knew what people might do with a naive young mutant who wished to harness their powers and wanted to ensure that no one else fell under the same circumstances. She could use her experience to help others. In her travels, she somehow became linked to a strange gem that captured her soul and tied her to those that carried it. Perhaps, unfortunately, the ones who held it for the longest were those who called themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy. After freeing herself from it, she still felt tied to the space goers and their crew, finding herself a not-always-reluctant member of their crew of chaos.

The newest Registration act has brought up old wounds for Kitty. Her own acts in Japan as a phasing mutant training to be an assasin would feed the Registration fire, not to mention her (what some may describe as) misadventures with the Guardians and her own history, they have left her a virulent opponent to registration. So, she she is now focused to stop Registration from spreading, from helping those like her and her crew.

Kitty Pryde is a very smart woman. Her main resource comes from her mind. However, because of that she tends to be stubborn and believes her own views are the proper ones. She is compassionate and is quick to attempt to help anyone in trouble. While a normally optimistic and bubbly person, her experiences have shown her that the world is a tough place to live. Much of her conflict comes from reconciling her hope for an optimistic outcome with the reality of the situation of the world.

Character Sheet

ACTIVE PHASING: Kitty is able to move through solid matter - floors, walls, books, metal, people anything. She has managed to reach enough control that she no longer has headaches in order to keep herself solid and not to pass through floors and walls without thinking. This is her active ability when she is consciously attempting to pass through something. She is actively attempting to move through a solid object in front of her.

GHOST STORY: Though her ability is an active one, her combat training in Tokyo has given her quick reflexes so as to turn herself insubstantial to avoid gunfire and other projectiles. She has to be aware of the attack, however once she is, her instincts will kick in.

I'M FLYING: While phased, she is able to walk on water as well as walk on air. It's not actually like flying, instead it is more like walking up stairs

I'M LOOKING THROUGH YOU: Using her phasing ability and bending the light around her, she is able to make herself practically invisible to the onlookers. It is easier to accomplish with shadows and in night.

PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS: While phased, Kitty's thoughts are essentially impossible to read. Not only that, it takes quite a lot of power to make telepathic powers affect her.

SINGING IN THE RAIN: While phased, elemental attacks pass through her harmlessly. She is unaffected by water, fire, earth, air, energy, electricity and lightning while phased.

SWAYZE: Passing through electronic devices while phased disrupts their signals and short them out. She can also destroy some tangible matter by phasing through it.

UNCHAINED MELODY: Kitty is able to make objects and other people immaterial with her. She can then take those people or objects through solid matter or ensure that projectiles pass through them. She can handle multiple people (up to 5) and objects her size with minimal strain. Anything bigger and she really has to concentrate, which will greatly increase the potential for getting those people/things getting stuck in a wall. She must be physically touching the person/object in order to cause it to phase with her.
