Spider-Woman

History

Jessica Miriam Drew was the daughter of Jonathan and Merriam Drew, born in London, England in the 1930s. Her parents moved her when she was still an infant to their new home on Mount Wundagore in Transia as they the two scientists joined their new business partner Henry Wyndham. Her parents life work was dedicated to harnessing the environmental adaptive abilities of spiders by grafting elements of their DNA into the human genome and their initial funding came from Hydra. Soon though the uranium deposits discovered near the Mount fueled their fortunes and paid for their scientific research granting them supposed freedom from former backers.

Unfortunately when she was still at a young age, Jessica ended up lethally poisoned by radiation from those same deposits her parents and their business partner were exploiting. To try to save her life, her father injected her with an untested serum made with the blood of several uncommon species of spiders, in the hopes of stopping the tissue damage and immunizing the girl from the Uranium radiation in her blood. Then, he sealed her in a genetic accelerator created by his partner Herbert Wyndham a.k.a. the High Evolutionary to speed the process, but it only seemed to work at a very slow rate.

Jessica was left in stasis for decades under Wyndham?s care, her aging greatly slowed, until the treatments finally finished in 2009. Now a full grown woman with little life experience, Jessica was tutored for a couple of years by Wyndham who had a vested interest in discovering what he could of the experiment. Jessica soon tired of being treated like an experiment and not being very welcomed by the New Men of Wundagore and eventually set off on her own, leaving the Citadel of Science.

Jessica ended up walking right into the clutches of Otto Vermis whom had Mount Wundagore under surveillance, something Hydra had in place since her father's dealings with them. The wealthy Vermis offered sanctuary to Jessica as a high-ranking leader in Hydra. She was trained rigorously (and abusively) by Hydra instructors with the goal of molding her into the perfect assassin and through a combination of brainwashing and manipulation Jessica seemed to fall into line over the three years of her training.

However, she rebelled on a basic level against them, going so far as to deviate from their conformity by making her first costume red instead of green. In her first and only field assignment for Hydra, Jessica refused to assassinate S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury. Rebelling against Hydra, Jessica defeated Vermis in a battle to the death.

That was the beginning of her current five year career with S.H.I.E.L.D. and so far it has been a pretty good career. She still believes in the mission. She is exceptionally skilled at her job (which is primarily espionage related). It has secured her serious advancement and opportunities. Will her career last, hard to say, but for now he is on board with it.

Recent Events

Back from an extended operation in Asia countering Hydra influence. The mission didn't go great but some time back in New York City and HQ will be welcomed at this point. Also the upcoming deadline for registration means things may get super exciting in the city.

Personality

Isolated: Her upbringing and life experiences mean she has trouble making friends, even inside SHIELD. Coworkers sure. Superiors and those under her command of course. True friends though is a hard thing and when she actually makes one she is fiercely loyal to them and their well being.

Anger: Occasionally she has a break in her zen and lashes out in anger or frustration. When Hydra is concerned the odds here are higher.

Professional Chameleon: She has a lot of training on how to blend in and do her mission. This leads to a mostly professional demeanor ir at least the appropriate demeanor for whatever the situation calls for. This makes nailing down her true personality harder.

Character Sheet

CONTAMINANT IMMUNITY

Spider-Woman's metabolism rapidly creates powerful immunities to all forms of toxins, poisons and drugs, after an initial exposure that usually makes her dizzy. Her body is totally immune to radiation.

REGENERATIVE HEALING FACTOR

She possesses a regenerative healing factor able to be stabbed and make a complete recovery in a matter of minutes. Her regenerative healing factor also extend to her longer lifespan and slowed aging.

SUPERHUMAN HEARING

Spider-Woman's hearing is superhumanly acute and enables her to detect sound at virtually any frequency, and she's been known to detect, sort out, and correctly identify sounds through thick steel doors, and across considerable distances.

SUPERHUMAN MUSCULATURE

Spider-Woman's muscular density and strength have been extraordinarily enhanced and enable her to lift about 7 tons. That density makes her body is somewhat tougher and more resistant to injury than an ordinary humans, although she is far from invulnerable. She is capable of withstanding impact forces that would severely injure or kill an ordinary human with only mild to moderate discomfort. Her strength has led to much greater speeds allowing her to run and move at speeds much greater than even the finest human athlete. Finally her musculature generates less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of an ordinary human. She can exert herself at peak capacity for several hours before fatigue begins to impair her.

SUPERHUMAN PHYSIQUE

Spider-Woman's agility, balance, reflexes, flexibility, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels beyond the human body's natural limits. Spiders are agile and balanced in ways few other animals are, able to race along tightropes essentially and Jessica has been modified to have those same skills. Her reflexes are also easily enhanced to levels beyond the human body's natural limits much like the trapdoor spider, superhuman reaction time and responses. Finally she is extraordinarily limber and her tendons and connective tissues are twice as flexible as the average human being's, despite the augmented musculature and its enhanced strength.

VENOM BLASTS

Her body possesses an inordinate amount of bio-electricity that she has learned to channel and discharge through her hands, in controlled bursts of what she calls "Venom Blasts". These energy projections vary in power; they mostly affect the nervous system in humans. Spider-Woman can regulate them, from simply a stun, to potent enough to kill an average-sized man in the same way that a lightning bolt could kill him.

WALL-CRAWLING

Spider-Woman's limbs can adhere to surfaces via electrostatic attraction. Spider-Woman can hold and carry a considerable amount of extra weight while sticking to walls without falling off; it's safe to assume that the weight she can carry is dozens of times her own, and the limits of how long she can do this before fatigue sets in are still unknown.
