Dead Girl really only leaves the mausoleum she's claimed for herself when she's got work to do- or it's night time and she wants to do some gardening.

Night blooming flowers seem to be what she's planting- humming to herself as she digs in the dirt near the mausoleum she calls home. She's got a little trowel, a wide-brimmed hat, a pair of overalls- she's just playing the part of the gardener, tonight- humming to herself as she goes about digging holes and filling those holes with plants.

For whatever reason, cemeteries bring comfort to the shadow-like young woman who has been mulling over the relevance of her own name. She can't use it now. Those who knew her by that name, they don't want her around. That seemed like such a long time ago, despite the scarce months that had passed since… the incident. Penniless, alone, silent, unidentifiable, nothing whatsoever to her name. What use is her name? As she puts her back to a tree, the young oak suddenly loses all defining features and becomes a silhouette from every angle. The shadow that caused that, she knows it happened. She is tucked into a little ball. Tired of running away from people. Also tired of what happens if she endures hostilities. A little silhouette-looking rat forms beside her and scurries away toward the cemetery gates after a momentary caress.

"Oh, is that so?" Dead Girl wonders of something- or nothing, it's difficult to say as her head cants to one side and she focuses on a patch of empty space. "Darkness, you say? Very curious. I guess I should check it out."

Dead Girl wipes her hands off on the overalls and starts to walk towards Ombra- over towards the darkness that is Ombra- "Oh! Hello!"

Dead Girl doesn't seem particularly frightened by a batch of shadows and darkness- but she is, very obviously, a corpse. "What brings you to the cemetery today?"

* * *

It takes a little longer for the shadow to react to the approach, and the speaking. The head moving is abrupt, arms out to the sides bracing for a standing up in short order but the startled shadow-girl quickly relaxes, leaning slightly forward and freeing the tree from the darkening effect, making her outline much clearer. The shadow-figure stands without using the tree as a brace, waving one hand out a little more to the side to accomodate typical vision that might not be able to tell. No sound emits from her, and she tries sign language, turning to provide profile and a better view of what she is 'saying'. It's an apology for intruding. With that attempt to convey something, she puts her hands to the side of her head where her ears are, covering both with emphatic motion.

* * *

Dead Girl frowns a bit- her eyes glowing that same red as always. She cocks her head to the side- trying to get a sense of what Ombra is… doing? Trying to communicate. "Um."

"I don't really understand." Dead Girl offers slowly, "Is everything okay? Oh.. covering ears. Um." Dead Girl's eyebrows come together. "Are you Okay?" she asks again, still trying to puzzle this all out

* * *

The shadow turns her head to the side toward the cemetery gates, then turns to be again facing the kindest person she has met for weeks. Sure, it appears to be someone who would not be out of place in a horror movie but friendly nonetheless. The shadow girl offers forth one of her hands, palm turned upward, head inclined forward. Only a little apprehension in her movements.

* * *

"Um.." Dead Girl's head cocks to the side- she looks to the gates. "Oh! Everyone's welcome here. I mean, unless they're like trying to do something bad." she explains, "I think that's what you mean." She goes on, looking at the upturned hand. "Are you looking for something?" she wonders next, eyebrows knit together as she puzzles out the movements.

"Are you hungry? Thirsty? I have some stuff in the tomb over there.." she says nodding towards the mausoleum she's claimed. "It's all pretty good stuff. Chips, um.. snack food mostly."

* * *

The hand lowers slowly, a visible sigh showing but no sound of one. While it is unseen by the lack of visible detail of her face, she is smiling. Her body language goes a little way to help convey that. Even if she is failing utterly at helping matters. By reply, she steps forward rather than risking a nod going unnoticed. A slight bowing, her arm gesturing as commonly accompanied by the phrase 'after you'. Little steps, she thinks.

* * *

Dead Girl smiles, and leads Ombra towards the Mausoleum- with the freshly planted night blooming flowers. "Come on in!" she says as she invites Ombra inside.

The inside of the Mausoleum is fairly comfortable. A number of cats are inside- laying all over the place, several cat beds full of more than one cat. "Hi babies!" she chirps to her cats, as she waves around, "Make yourself at home! Let me get you something to eat." she offers as she heads over to a make-shift pantry. "I've got chips, chewy candy stuff, um.. choco cookies." she looks back towards Ombra to see if any of these spark her interest. "I've have like instant mac and cheese, instant potatoes. I can make tea or coffee…"

* * *

The walk to the mausoleum had the shadow girl being humble, moving with care, as though she could somehow spook the spookiest of spooky persons in the known cemetery. There is an excited bounce to her step when she notices the cats. They don't hear her. They don't hear anything she does. They only see a dark shape. The shadow keeps her distance from the animals, all too familiar with how unsettling she can be. She notices then that she is being spoken to, rapidly looking around, past the cats. Stationary!
The shadow moves rapidly to the location of pen and pad. Picking up pen, which loses any definition and becomes part of her silhouette, pulling the lid from it, pressing the lid to the paper, and writes with the pen carefully, just a few words. She then picks up the paper pad, which also becomes part of her silhouette, and brings it to the Dead Girl, setting it down on a slab and releasing it, where it promptly becomes readable as the darkness draws away from it. 'Can't hear. Can't speak'. She was very efficient with the message, writing within the lines and with precise penmanship. The pen is brought up to point at Dead Girl's lips with a casual motion.

* * *

"You read lips?" Dead Girl wonders next, as she looks down at the paper. "Or.. do you need me to write?" she makes a writing motion, pointing down at the paper- then at herself. "Do you need me to write?"

* * *

A silent clap from the shadow signals a correct deduction, and the pen lid is used again to steady the pad. 'Learning lip-read' is written very carefully to avoid moving the page despite the pen lid holding it there. She drops the pen and lid abruptly, backing away from it one step, her body language conveying worry rather than fear. She picks up the pen again, moving it more rapidly over the paper. 'If hold too long it vanish' and sets down the pen on top of the paper. There is a hint of being upset about her, but she is putting on a calm face.

* * *

"Oh! So like it goes away if you hold onto it too long. Okay." Dead Girl says nodding her head slowly. "I see." she looks up, "Can you eat, though?" she wonders, "I can make you something to eat- or some tea or something?" she frowns a bit, "What's your name?"

* * *

The shadow girl gazes at the Dead Girl as the latter speaks, an exaggerated nod of her head to indicate yes, and again at the subject of eating. It takes her a moment to respond when asked about her name, picking up pen again to scribe, deciding her old name just is not really going to be applicable any longer and draws on her recollection of Italian, settling to write 'name Ombra'. Pen set down again with lid. It seems to be remaining dark for just a little longer each time she lets it go. She backs away from it, shaking her head.

* * *

"Ombra. Okay." Dead Girl says, smiling quietly. "Well, there's the pantry- if you're hungry, go ahead and pick something." she says, "If you need me to make it, I will." she offers as she goes to a busted, but comfortable looking recliner and sits- she is immediately sat upon by no less than three purring cats. "These are my babies." She says with a beaming smile. "They don't mind what you look like, or what you are."

* * *

Ombra nods in a grateful manner, kneeling in place to approach the lady that the cats flock to, rather than one of the cats directly. She holds out one hand toward to let them investigate the strange shape that smells nearly like a human but not quite. As one ventures to bump its head against the outstretched arm, something that Ombra was not expecting comes to pass, probably to the surprise of everyone. The shadow of a girl becomes the shadow of a cat. The cat-shadow looks disoriented, wobbling to stay upright as it suddenly needs more limbs on the ground, turning to examine more of itself and then noticing the vastly increased amount of scent-based information.

* * *

For some reason, the cat that bumped her seems much more perturbed than one would expect from the changing Ombra, moving quickly away from her.

* * *

"Ooh. That's neat." Dead Girl says as she watches, smiling bright. Dead Girl's cats are fairly calm creatures- they're used to a walking corpse, after all. "That's really neat…" she watches carefully- curiously- wanting to make sure her new cat-shadow friend is okay.

* * *

The cat-shadow manages with minimal adjustment to get to standing posture, taking a few steps around in a circle to familiarize herself with navigating, and decides then to at least share why the one cat was sufficiently affected as to want to move away from the strange shadowy thing. Ombra-cat gets close enough, and places one of her paws on the Dead Girl's leg. The moment she does, as one might expect, the Dead Girl becomes a shadow Dead Girl. Still occupying the same amount of space, but as much a silhouette to observers as Ombra herself. It is, however not the only change.
The moment Ombra makes contact, the world stops making sound for the Dead Girl. The change is very easy to notice. Ombra draws back from the Dead Girl and sits on her haunches, and the moment she stops touching, everything returns to what it was before she touched.

* * *

Dead Girl exists between two worlds- it's all very interesting when at least one side of that world goes away. No more sound. Quiet. All very interesting, to be certain. "Ooh." she says, soundlessly, before the shadowed cat's paw is removed. "Well, that was sorta neat." she says as she goes back to petting her cats. "You sure you're not hungry?" she asks again, beaming bright and friendly. "If you want, you can hang around here for a little while." she says, gesturing vaguely. "I mean, I'm sure you'd be more comfortable somewhere like this- lots of shadows and stuff."

* * *

The cat-shadow seems to breathe a sigh of relief at the much more casual reaction than she is accustomed to seeing, and in some cases feeling. Her head turns again, attentive to something beyond the mausoleum doors, letting out a wide yawn, moving to explore the home of a new friend, carefully avoiding staying in contact with things for long, returning before long to lay herself on the floor beside the Dead Girl.
