Gotham is sort of spooky all on it's own- It's dark, often raining, foggy, full of crime and nasty people. The Cemetery is all the worse- fog seems to cling to the ground and the graves are all different levels of jutting out of the ground in various states of care or disrepair. Nestled between a pair of hills sits one little Mausoleum that is often surrounded by cats- the large stone door is open, at the moment, and light is flickering out from inside largely blocked by a heavy blanket that serves as a sort of 'curtain' to allow privacy inside. Inside that tomb, Dead Girl is washing her hands in a make-shift sink, really just a bucket of water that's been collected from the nearby pond. The water is exceedingly red.

***

Ombra's note left for Ryan Rivers was to find her at a specific address in Gotham's central area at 9pm, because she can just be there for a bit before and after every day and not interfere with her entire lack of schedule. She does not at all mind waiting there, seeing if he shows. Tonight she is sitting with her back to a wall in an alley overlooking the address, huddled to be an unrecognizable shape to passersby, gently petting a cat-shaped shadow, conversing with its anima. The doubts about whether Ryan will ever take that opportunity or just abandon her go casually back and forth between them, with the cat providing the voice of doubt to Ombra's eternal wellspring of hope.

***

Ryan has never been to Gotham before, he has heard stories about it sure just everyone else has, but to truly be in Gotham for him is something else, to say the least. Still, Ryan is determined to meet with his new friend Ombra again, only this time at her home. With this being his first time to Gotham, Ryan decides to take some extra precautions for himself. He is wearing his new black jacket that he replaced after he….. lost it, wearing his hood over his head and his scarf to cover up his facial features so no one would recognize him, not knowing who or what may around has Ryan a bit more on guard. Eventfully after arriving in Gotham and Digging around to find the location on the paper left by Ombra, Ryan arrives at the designated area and he takes a seat at one of the near buy benches, waiting to see if Ombra is here or not.

***

Dead Girl knows that Ombra is expecting a friend- so, after cleaning what is quite possible blood off her hands she begins to prepare a little snack for someone who more than likely can taste and eat food. Celery and peanut butter! She puts on some tea, checks that there is milk in the mini-fridge and turns on the space heater. It's quite cold in GOtham with all the damp, an the tomb is no different. The walls seem to leach the heat out of the room. Luckily, the inside of the mausoleum has been converted into a rather stylish, somewhat spacious apartment- with stairs down into the underground- although a strong, locked gate protects would-be interlopers from wandering in willy-nilly from below. As with the front door a heavy blanket is put up to protect the privacy of the two women who live in a graveyard. The furniture is all of the 'found on the street' variety. There are a few recliners, a sofa- no beds, though. Dead Girl doesn't need to sleep, and the large marble slab in the corner may or may not be Ombra's bed- it's covered in a lot of pillows, that's for sure.

***

With the covering of face, the man sitting on the bench does not immediately get noticed as the one waited for. Fortunately, there are clues. One, he's waiting for someone. That makes Ombra take notice. About the correct build. Rather than moving toward Ryan herself, the cat in her lap hops down to investigate. Its black shape contrasted by the plastic white chess knight in its maw. It hops up on the bench, dropping the knight into Ryan's lap, gazing up at him, sniffing. Then it turns its head toward where Ombra waits. Ombra herself takes the shape of the same cat and rushes to where Ryan sits, brushing up against the bench and making it change to complete blackness for an instant. She even silently meows up at him but that doesn't quite work out to draw more attention. She is being very cautious to avoid drawing looks from people in the area.

***

Ryan is not surprised with the black cat hopping on to the bench, though slightly with the white knight chess piece, it does let him know that this is Ombra's cat for he knows that she can create them. Though the other black cat is a bit surprised to him as he did not know Ombra could turn herself into animal shapes as well. But as soon as she turns the bench into blackness, he gets a feeling it is her. Ryan then reaches out with his mind in an attempt to communicate with the cat. "Ombra, is that you?"

***

The first cat hops back down, meeting with Ombra-cat and merging to one entity, one black shape. The second cat, whose mind is now very familiar to Ryan, responds with excitement, ensuring her identity has been correctly named and how overjoyed she is that he came and a string of other things like complimenting his jacket and hoping he didn't find Gotham too hard to find his way and glad he made it safely, all the while moving around energetically. There's a beckoning, as she starts moving in a very specific, cemetery-based direction, informing that this will lead to where she has found a home and another, very important friend she has.

***

Dead Girl gives the tomb another once over- nodding to herself with a little smile. "Looks good! Nice to have visitors!" she says, looking to her left, "Yes, I know you are visiting as well, but you've been visiting Gotham since like 1874." she says to no one in particular- a ghost, more than likely, that only she can see. "You stopped being a visitor when you decided to spend your afterlife here, buddy." And so, with water in the kettle to boil, snacks prepared, and milk suitably cold and fresh she sits in her favorite chair and is almost immediately set upon as a perch for cats- there are at least five or six that seem to hang out in the tomb at all times- with several more just relaxing in the general area. Clearly, someone is feeding street cats.

***

A smile falls on Ryan's dace as he sees Ombra so excited and overjoyed, though you can't see it with his scarf covering up his face. He gets up and begins to follow Ombra as she leads him to her home while answering all her questions telepathically of course. "Thank you, and though it was a bit difficult to navigate, but I did find my way. I'm glad to see you again Ombra and I'm glad you made it back safely to Gotham. It's a bit of a travel from New York to Gotham and I was a bit worried about you."

***

On the way to the cemetery, Ombra is hopping up on things, walking at a brisk cat-pace, playing at kitty parkour with railings, informing Ryan about what she thinks the city is like as she passes places where she has made effort to meet people, and some of those places she associates with intense pain and bullets. She's taken a lot of bullets. She isn't afraid of them. Just the resulting pain she wants to avoid. At the cemetery, she enters, and takes on her human shape, holding the gate for Ryan, her excitement intensifying as she is about to introduce someone to another person for the first time since her world went silent. Her companion shadow emerges from her and goes to herald her arrival for Dead Girl.

***

Dead Girl is covered in four cats by the time the Fifth Cat arrives- this one Ombra's little shadow. "Oh! They're coming!" Dead Girl says as she carefully lifts each cat from her lap or tummy and places them on the ground. "Just in time! The water just started to boil! Good timing." she hops over to the tea, calling out. "Hello! Come in Ombra and her friend!" she says, "Do you like tea? I made some nice tea! It's English Breakfast!" she says next. Perhaps most oddly- there is no mind associated with this voice. There are only the minds of cats and Ombra in the area.

***

Ryan gives a polite bow of his head. "Thank you, Ombra." He says telepathically. However, as soon as he is about to enter he hears the other voice but does not pick up a mental signature with the voice and Ryan stops dead in his treks. Again telepathically reaching out to Ombra "Ombra who is your friend and why and why can't I". there a pause for a moment as Ryan figures out the best way to describe the not picking up her brain, "sense her presence at all?"

***

There is a moment where Ryan stops hearing anything, and that moment is when Ombra hugs him along the way to the crypt. It's brief, partly because of the first time she hugged him and partly because it's more relaxed, friendly and welcoming. A little confusion comes when she is asked. She has no idea, because mind communicating is really outside of her understanding, despite how she can engage her shadow with it. She moves quickly once inside to wave a hello for Dead Girl, pointing at Ryan with a bouncing in place. Ryan can hear the thoughts she's trying to express: That's him! That's the guy I was talking about!

***

Anyone who's seen a corpse before knows exactly what Dead Girl is: Dead. Sure, she's a good looking corpse, but a corpse none the less. She turns to face Ryan- her eyes glowing ominously in the low-lights of the mausoleum. The light cast by a kerosene lamp and a few low-energy LED light bulbs hooked up to what would best be described as 'Questionable' wiring. It was not done by an expert. "Welcome! You must be Ryan!" Dead Girl beams, "How do you like your tea?" she wonders as she turns to pour three glasses worth of tea. Two in standard mugs, the third in what looks to be a much sturdier, heavier piece of kit- something that Ombra won't immediately swallow into darkness. Who knows where exactly Dead Girl found that. "Welcome, welcome! Milk? Sugar?" She goes about making tea however it is Ombra likes it best- she undoubtedly knows by now. She takes it plain herself.

***

Ryan embraces her in the hug is returned and is not fazed at all with the change of things going silent. As she enters into the thinks to himself of how stupid he is, of course she would not know why. As he is thinking this to himself he picks up Ombra's thoughts and her excitement and decides to put is cautiousness aside end enter. As Ryan enters into the home he gives a quick look around the room to take in his new surroundings, as he answers you hear a stern but kind southern accent "Thank you and I like it sweet with milk please." As he sees Dead Girl for the first he is a bit surprised, to say the least, but manages to keep hidden. Ryan takes off his hood and scarf from his head and face and you see a young man with black hair and deep green eyes. If Dead Girl is good at reading people you can tell by Ryan's eyes that he is someone who has seen a lot. "My name is Ryan and thank you for having me into your home.

***

Dead Girl smiles over to Ryan- a look so different from the angry glowing red of her eyes- like the balefires of the underworld giving light to passing ghosts. "Okay!" Dead Girl makes up Ryan's tea, "I'm Dead Girl- nice to meet you." she says, as she then offers tea first to the guest- then over to Ombra in that special cup that won't get eaten so quick, and finally for herself. She places the snacks on a table near the Ouija board. It, too, has a very heavy chess piece on it- likely made of some very dense material. It's a center piece between the two lounge chairs. "Sorry, I didn't have time to find another lounge chair." she says, "But, please, make yourself comfortable!" There are stories in the Gotham underground about 'The Ghost of Gotham'. A terrifying vision with red eyes - a woman, they say, who was abused and murdered…. and now enacts bloody vengeance on anyone who commits those same heinous acts. This woman- immune to weapons. Immune to Fire. Immune to cold- to whom even the physical objects of reality mean nothing- is something to fear. At least, that's what the people of the underworld say. But Dead Girl seems happy and chipper, "Do you want to watch some TV? We don't get a lot of guests- It's got closed captions on it for Ombra, of course." she explains as she points to the TV with what appears to be a Black Box to steal cable with. The cables for it are routed in from the underground. "We get all the channels- a nice Chinese lady gave me the box after I helped her daughter out of an abusive relationship!"

***

Ombra has a fondness for overly sweet tea, unaffected by how hot it might be when she takes hold of it, downing it in gulps, setting the mug down before something horrible happens to it. She stops by each of the cats present, kneeling for them. They seem comfortable with the idea of being deafened suddenly. She sets a ouija board in view, her shadow changing from cat to rat, and playing marker for which letter is indicated rather than having Ombra move a stone around the board. 'met at chess match' is spelled out by pointer rat.

***

Ryan takes the tea form Dead girl and gives a nod of thanks to her, and grabs one of the pillows he spots and sits on it instead of one the chairs, Ryan may have had a hard upbringing but he was brought up in the south and being a gentlemen was defiantly one thing his father taught him. "No problem this pillow will do nicely." Ryan now using his telepathy to speak to Ombra what he says out loud as to not leave her out. As for TV if fine with that if you wish two wish." Ryan then takes a sip of the tea and you can see a look of satisfaction fall on his face. " This is delicious, thank you." Telepathically to Ombra "Your friend is quite nice and knows how to make a good cup of tea. Ah now I see what you meant with the Ouija board, that really is quite clever." Ryan speaking both out loud and telepathically to Ombra "so tell me how did you two meet?"

***

Dead Girl smiles, and just sits with her tea- she's very still. No breathing. No blinking. Cats come to rest on her lap- and she pets them gently. She's very careful with them. "Oh, I'll let Ombra tell that story if she wants." Dead Girl says- not willing to say she found Ombra curled up despondent under a tree. That's for Ombra to say if she wants to share it. "More tea?" she asks of Ombra, "I made a double pot tonight." she says with a smile- Dead Girl tends to just hold her tea for an hour- sometimes reheating it in the microwave they've got- she just enjoys the scent and the warmth. She never actually drinks it. "All I can say is that I'm happy Ombra is here. She's a fantastic friend!" she beams, speaking slowly and clearly as she faces Ombra so her lips can be easily seen. "Oh stop it, this isn't about you." Dead Girl says then to some random empty place in the room, "Ghosts." she offers with a roll of her eyes. "Always butting in."

***

In Ombra's mind, Ryan sees it play out. She was running after she noticed someone shooting at her when she tried to befriend them, ended up taking shelter in the cemetery when the shooter gave chase, and was not followed. There was despair, crushing loneliness, but then along comes friendly face, who lives in a crypt, and Ombra followed. She lives here now. Sleeps on a bed of dirt, because dirt in enough quantity does not vanish. Ombra kneels on the floor to continue providing company to the cats.

***

"Oh, well that's a completely different issue." Dead Girl says as she stands up, and pours her tea back into the kettle. "Help yourself to snacks, there's food in the fridge- cook anything you want. I don't eat, and Ombra doesn't need to eat.. she just sort of.. absorbs stuff." Dead Girl says, trying to figure out the best way to put it. "I got to go do some work." Dead Girl goes over to a pad of paper and writes on it for Ombra's benefit- 'Going out to do some work. You stay with friend. Got the chips you like, they are in the bread box. If he doesn't have a place to stay, he can stay on the slab.' All written in crisp, easily written handwriting. "I have to go beat a man to the edge of death with his own forearm for beating a kid to death… and other things." Dead Girl says simply, voice dark and with a certain contained anger to it- constrained. Tight. "It's going to be nasty, so.. best to let you two enjoy your night!" she beams brightly, "I'll see you soon!" Dead Girl smiles- and then her form seems to go cloudy as she just walks through the wall- just like a ghost would.

***

Ryan gives a smile and responds both aloud and telepathically to Ombra "Indeed she is, I've only just met Ombra and already a friendship formed between us quickly. I know a bit about being feared because you are different and how people will treat you because of that, in fact, I think that's what helped us bond so quickly. As Ombra story and emotions with the story play out in Ryan's head, you can see his face fall into sadness, Ryan understands all too well what that is like from his own past. As Dead Girl says she is leaving and giver her explanation of why, he just nods "good luck" though he is not sure she needs it, it's still polite. As Dead Girl leaves Ryan begins up the telepathic conversation. "I'm sorry you had to go all through that, I know what that is like, but I'm glad you found a home and a very nice friend."

***

Ombra rises to approach Ryan, mostly because she likes being nearby people, resting her hand on his, one of the first spots she can't destory something, and touching back of hand to that of Ryan. Friendship gesture. She sits on the floor like that. 'People shoot me a lot here but I always get better fast so it's okay I think I died once is it okay if I keep touching your hand?'

***

As Ombra touches Ryan's hand and the effects of Ombra's powers happen, Ryan just sits there not fazed by it at all. Ryan has not anyone gets this close to him, not even any of the X-Men mainly because he does not trust people so easily due to his past, but with Ombra he trust her. "Of course, you can keep touching my hand as long as you need." There is a bit of a pause as Ryan takes in the I think I died once, but he knows of another mutant that can do the same so it's not as much of a surprise. "I'm glad that you can recover from injuries quickly and apparently death as well, that a really nice ability to have, but still that does not mean that you should be shot just because you are different from everyone." Ryan turns his head and looks at the wall and a thousand-yard stare falls onto his face for a minute as his own memories flash before and all he went through just because he was different from normal humans, "No one should have to go through such pain just because they are different."

***

Ombra happily holds her hand in place, quite fond of the physical contact, the connection, even with something so small and insignificant to most people. No ulterior motives even hint. 'I like not being shot better but it happens a lot here but that's okay because that means someone else isn't getting shot by those bullets and they vanish inside me like everything else I touch; sorry again about your jacket I know its not a big deal but it was yours is your new one comfortable enough?' She's calming down from hyper excitement.

***

a small chuckle escapes from Ryan as she mentions the jacket. "Like I said before no worries, besides it gave me an excuse to get a new one and believe me I was time for a new one and yeah it is quite comfy and little more durable as well actually. You know you really are very kind soul Ombra, not a lot of people would be willing to take bullet shots for others so they don't get shot, especially for people that you don't even know." Ryan's hand tights around Ombra's just a little bit in a soft and protective way "I wish more people could see you for who you are, a kind and caring soul" Ryan remembers the moment they hugged back at the chess match and a thought comes to his mind. "would you like to try the jacket on? Don't worry about it disappearing, like I said its made of sturdier stuff."

***

At the squeeze, Ombra's adoration for the situation intensifies. Her other hand grasps, and she brings the hand to her face, leaning on its palm. 'Thank you so much for this I don't want to make you uncomfortable so I'm just touching my face with you' Worry builds again, just a little. The new jacket seems to be a favoured item. 'It takes a little longer if it's a heavier thing but if it's not bigger than me it vanishes it smells very nice though'

***

As Ombra brings his hand to her face Ryan gets just a little flustered but he realizes that this must mean so much to Ombra and he is glad to be able to give this to here. Ryan wants to help Ombra in any way he can. "Don't worry you are not making me uncomfortable. Ah, see then that's good to know for the future." Ryan pauses for a moment as he thinks about just how much just is hand is bringing her happiness, and on how he wishes he could help her more. "I'm glad I could give you this at the very least. I only wish I could do more for you if there is anything I can do to help please do not hesitate to ask."

***

'I don't need a lot of things' Ombra expresses, content. 'Friends. People who won't run away or get scared when I touch them. Sleep. I guess I need to breathe. I haven't seen what happens if I stop yet but maybe I'll live through drowning too' The idea has come to her before, but it's faded now as an idea. 'You've done so much for me just by being here' She refers to the crypt. 'Really glad you came to the city, how long can you stay? I can find you a nice BnB just by looking inside if you want to have that but you also can stay here with us in the crypt'

***

A small smile comes across Ryan's face as Ombra expresses how much by just coming here has made her so happy. Ryan had not thought he could something like for anyone not since he became a mutant any, nor did he think he could want to help others, or even trust someone again. "well I'm glad I could give you such joy by just being here Ombra. As for how long I can stay, well it depends I'm not needed for anything back at the X-Mansion right now, though eventually I will have to go back but for now I can stay as long as I l like. A yawn escapes from Ryan as he has now been up for several hours now, though he has used to going long hours, even days if necessary without sleep, eventually, he must let his body rest. "No BnB is needed, I'd rather stay here where it is much safer and with someone that I trust if that is ok with you and your friend?"

***

'There was a note left that told me so' Ombra informs. 'We don't have a lot of bedding but neither of us need it and it vanishes if I touch it too long so I just sleep on some soil but there's a slab you can lay on and we should have enough to make that okay for sleeping' Her shadow procures the TV remote, and offers it over. 'I don't really know much TV now but we have lots of things you can see if there's something you want to see'

***

Ryan puts up his hand rejecting the remote. "Thank you for the offer but" another yawn escapes him, "I think I am just going to turn in for the night. Ryan gets up and grabs some of the pillows around the room and makes a makeshift bed on the slab Ombra pointed out. "Thank you for inviting me into your home Ombra, I had a wonderful time with you and your friend. I know you said you don't need much but my offer still stands that if there is ever anything I can do please let me know." Another yawn escapes from Ryan as his body now begins to scream out for rest. Ryan lays down onto the makeshift bed and gets comfy. "Goodnight Ombra and sweet dreams" is the last thing that comes from Ryan's telepathy to Ombra, that and a feeling of peace before he passes out, into a deep sleep.

***

'Sleep well!' Once she ensures Ryan is all settled in, Ombra curls up on her patch of soil, using her arms to rest her head at the correct angle for her preferences, her shadow melding with her as before.
