It's late in the afternoon on this cold and cloudy fall day in Gotham and Halloween is just right around the corner. Many decorations for Halloween are set up around people's homes and on the streets of Gotham….. well is some places anyway. Gotham cemetery is no different, its, well usual atmosphere seems to not change, but there is one spot that is at the very least warm and out of the elements, Dead Girl and Ombra's home.

Inside Dead Girl and Ombra's home it is nice and warm thanks to the heaters Dead Girl has provided to help keep it nice and warm for her friends. The many cats doing, well what normally do I guess, laying around, playing, napping, trying to stay warm, you know the normal cat stuff.
Inside we find Dead Girl, Ombra, and Ryan who is lying on a makeshift bed that he made as he was staying with them over the past days unconscious and has not moved or made a sound ever since Ombra brought him back from the Zoo trip. Hours and hours have passed since Ombra brought back Ryan with still no movement or sound, well except his steady breathing at least.

***

One nice thing about having a friend who is already dead is that she's very rarely worried about people who are still very clearly alive. Dead Girl is on her favorite lounge chair, petting one of the cats that live with her and Ombra. "It's a nice day for soup, isn't it, Mr. Mittens?" she wonders of the cat, "But cats don't eat soup, do they? Noooo.. you want chim-kins!" she baby-talks to the cat, still stroking the animal so very gently.

She looks over her shoulder towards Ryan- still alive. No real signs of death, it seems, and she turns her attention back to the television that's currently muted. Just closed captions on the screen- some silly game show.

Dead Girl picks up a book- a signing dictionary- and haltingly signs towards Ombra, <"What happen to him?">

***

When Ombra brought Ryan back to the cemetery, it was atop a tiger-shadow. She had to hold him steady up there for the trip so he is missing anything resembling a shirt or jacket.

According to the shadowy girl she does not understand what made Ryan fall unconscious like that, but apparently they met a friend from the mansion place and something about him letting them all think-talk. Then Ombra apparently went to see the tiger enclosure and that's when Ryan went to sleep. Excitedly, Ombra relates that she apparently can be a tiger now and something about guessing right.

***

As Ombra and Dead Girl continue their sign language conversation. Ryan continues to remain in a coma-like state. His breathing appears to be normal and does not look like he is too cold despite not having a shirt or jacket anymore. Though what is now visibly seen is the many scars on Ryan's body from some knife cuts, a few grazing from bullets and a bullet wound now scared over on his upper left arm. It is quite obvious to anyone that Ryan has been in some very heavy…… fights.

***

Several times, Dead Girl makes a sign for 'Slow Down' when Ombra's excited signing starts to get too fast for her to follow. It's one of the signs she's clearly memorized. Again and again her eyes drift back to her dictionary, nodding slowly as she follows the speech. She then signs, slowly, <"He tries to attach many minds? How many? Which Friend? Important to know to fix.">

***

<"Wolf friend"> Ombra offers to Dead Girl, trying to keep her excitement in check. <"Connected me, wolf, him"> While there is worry about her, Ombra is hopeful, kneeling by Ryan's impromptu bed and checking on what she can in terms of making him more comfortable. Her shadow-friend in cat form is curled up against Ryan's head at the side.

***

As Ombra does what she can to help Ryan more comfortable, he does, in fact, look comfortable, he's got a nice makeshift bead, a pillow for his head, and a nice shadow cat curled up next to his head. All in all a nice scene of a comfortable sleeping man. However, in his mind is a completely different scene entirely. Though no one can see it giving Ryan's coma-like sleep, Ryan is not having a peaceful rest.

***

Ombra takes her friend's assessment as probably true, since she is the expert in all things unliving. At least according to Ombra's thoughts about her. The shadow beside Ryan's head starts purring, silently but the vibrations are still felt, while Ombra herself rubs the feline shadow in repeated stroking movements. <"can get anything ?"> Ombra offers to Dead Girl, standing. <"We can find">

***

As Dead Girl speaks to Ryan to try and wake him up but there is no answer from Ryan and Ombra's cat begins to pure next to Rains head, which is definably a way to help improve someone being more comfortable I mean who would not love having a cat pruning next to them.

As Dead Girl and Ombra continue to sign language with each other about what is wrong with Ryan Ryan's situation changes. His breathing starts to increase in quicker and heavier strokes, he begins to sweat across his forehead, and his face goes from someone peacefully sleeping into someone who is in turmoil, like someone who is having a terrible nightmare.

***

"Well, that doesn't look good." Dead Girl looks over towards Ombra. "I think maybe we should take him to a hospital or something." she remarks, as she shakes her head, "Or, I guess, take him back to that school place. I bet someone there could help him." she goes on, as she frowns to herself. "So, did anything else happen at the same time? Like.. he was just by the tigers and he passed the heck out?"

***

Gazing up from Ryan, Ombra watches Dead Girl speak, unsure what to do to help. <"Nothing else"> and <"just me at tigers"> She then quickly feels Ryan's pants pockets for wallet and phone presence with her shadow friend can work on extracting, and she keeps her touch very brief because she is pretty certain pants are not something acceptable to suddenly be without.

***

As Ombra begins to feel for a wallet and cell phone on Ryan's pants she feels a wallet in the back left the pocket and a cell phone in the front left pocket of his jeans. As Ombra is feeling for the items in Ryan's jeans, his situation begins to worsen, his whole body Is now sweating and his body begins to twitch and turn like someone stuck in a nightmare that they can't wake up from and says a few words while in his sleep. "NO……..Stop….. please don't…. I'm not a mutant…… Uncle, please…… no no NO"

***

"Oh." Dead Girl says, eyebrows narrowing together. "You think I should just slap him awake?" she wonders, looking over to Ombra, "I mean, he's having some kinda nightmare about his uncle. I think I'm just going to give him a slap."
So she does. SLAP! right across the cheek, "WAKE UP, RYAN!"

***

As the restless sleeper starts moving, Ombra's shadow friend starts pushing the objects out from the pockets, with Ombra catching them and setting them out of harm's way quickly, very worried she will make them disappear too. She brings her hands up to her mouth as the slapping begins, unsure of why but trusting that the plan is sound. She does not add slaps, but her shadow friend begins applying sandpaper tongue to the cheek at different places.

***

As Ryan continues to be stuck in his nightmare state still twitching and yelling out words like No and Please Don't, a slap is sent across Ryan's face which causes Ryan simultaneously to shoot up from laying down to a sitting position. As she shoots up he yells "NOOOOO" and his right arm stretches out in front of him and a blast of telekinetic energy is sent from his hand straight forward, not enough to cause serious damage but defiant enough to knock someone off their feet if someone was standing right in front of him.

After the telekinetic blast Ryan continues to sweat and breathing heavily while just looking straight ahead, not quite aware of his surroundings.

***

Ryan sends a cat flying. Luckily, cats land on their feet. No real harm done. Dead Girl frowns, "Ryan. RYAN." she takes him by the shoulders- looking him straight in the eyes, "Hey, come on now, Ryan- it's me and Ombra. Dead Girl and Ombra. You're safe, You're with friends." she says, "It's okay. Buddy, it's okay."

***

Behind Ryan, there was a shadow of a cat. It's grown. Now it's the shadow of a tiger, providing its massive body to lean against. Ombra leans against it too, nearer to the head and holding the great cat. She worries intensely, not wanting to worsen the situation by touching Ryan and plunging him into a world of silence.

***

Ryan still breathing heavy and a bit quickly as Dead Girl grabs his shoulders and looks him right in the eyes, Her words begin to help bring back to reality and out of his hell of a nightmare. Ryans' breath begins to slow a little as "Dead…. Girl?" Ryan grabs his head like waking up from a daze and a bit of a headache with it "What happened? How did I get here?.. the last thing I remember was the Zoo and. Wait! Where is Ombra!"

***

Ombra moves around from tiger head to ahead of Ryan, waving to him and clasping hands together, looking thrilled to see him up and responsive. Less thrilled about his shirt and jacket but at least warm tiger fur should help compensate. She has that overly excitable and apologetic look to her.

***

Ryan lets out a sigh of relief as he sees Ombra and that she is ok and then he sees the big shadow tiger next to him and a look of shock, surprise and aww fall on Ryans face all at once. <Ombra I'm glad to see you are ok, what happened> Ryan then points the shadow tiger <And where did you get this big girl?>

***

<That's my shadow friend you've met before> Ombra expresses, trying to hold back her excitement, worried what it might do to Ryan if she overwhelms him with her outbursts that never end. <Whatever animal I touch I can be, and so can my friend> The tiger licks the back of Ryan's head just once. Ombra moves to Ryan's side. <That's what I wanted to show you. But then we met your other friend and I got really mad about what people do to her and oh no is that why you went to sleep? I'm so sorry I didn't mean to get mad>

***

<Fall asleep?> Ryan's memories begin to come back to him about what happened at the zoo and as it does a look of sorrow falls on his face as he remembers how the day ended with his friend from the Manson ran away. <there is no need to apologies Ombra, it's not your fault I passed out, its mine, I'm still learning to use my powers and if I overexert myself too much it can hurt me, though that is the first time I have ever passed out.>

Ryan starts to gently scratch the tiger on the head. <tell me if I passed out how did I get back here and how long was I out for?> Ryan now realizes that he is no longer wearing his jacket….. and shirt, <and what happened to my shirt!?>

***

Ombra recounts by her memory of what happened as best she can, including the movement of Ryan's unconscious body and the method of transport, and the necessary contact she had to make with him, and the compromise of what she had to hold on to in terms of region. <It's my fault I'm sorry maybe we can find a new one for you> Ombra seems to want to make up for the loss. <My friend can carry things and they won't vanish like they do with me> The tiger bumps gently against Ryan with its head. <If I know your size I can find something from a donations bin and maybe a jacket too but it's getting to winter so maybe not> She moves to gather a blanket and sets it on Ryan's lap, not wanting to touch it for too long. <Your phone and wallet are there> She points out the location nearby.

***

<I see> As Ombra fills Ryan in on how she got him here and all the work she did to help him he feels bad about it all, the last thing he wanted was for Ombra to have to be burdened with him. As Ombra puts the blanket on Ryan's lap he puts it to his side, sits up and gives Ombra a hug. <Thank you Ombra for saving me back there and I am so sorry that you had to go through all that trouble just to burden me back here, you really are a kind and wonderful soul.>

***

Any jittery, nervous and anxious thoughts that Ombra had shooting through her mind seem to fall off into an echo, fading out as Ryan puts his arms around her, mirroring the gesture with gratitude, relief, contentedness. <You know me better than anyone> her mind relaxedly comes to express. <I'd do anything for you. Even steal stuff if it helped you.> Engaging in crimes is not her first idea of problem solving. <I think she's going to see if she can find the invisible top hat man with the cane. I think he's a ghost.>

***

<A ghost huh, well that would be first I mean getting check out by a ghost doctor anyway.> Ryan lets go of the hug but keeps his hand on her shoulder <And I would do anything to help you as well Ombra, you know in truth you are the first person in a very long time that I feel I can trust completely and my trust does not come easily, the X-men gave me a home and a safe place and I do trust them to an extent but with you I trust completely. I am truly blessed to have a friend like you!>

Ryan lets go of Ombra and goes grabs the blanket and has a seat in one of the chairs as his body is still a bit fatigued from using his powers to such an extent and does not want to collapse again in front of Ombra. As he sites a small smile comes across his face <As for the shirt and jacket don't worry about them I've got money to buy new ones. And I know that I have said this before but just know that if there is ever anything you need from me or need to talk about just let me know.> Ryan then uses his telekinesis to pull his phone to him, unlocks it and telepathically gives Ombra the code to his phone. <In case you need to use it that's the code to unlock it.>

***

Ombra accompanies Ryan to the chair, standing nearby, the tiger walking into her and becoming part of her again, then emerging as the smaller cat that hops up onto Ryan's lap, laying out over one leg. <Just talking is enough for what I need> Ombra explains. <I can't use that. If I try it'll vanish like everything else, and if I touch it I can't see what's on it and I can't hear it…> She seems a little sad about all of that, but pushes past that sadness. <This is why I can't have nice things.> She's smiling, not that it's easy to see on her.

***

Ryan senses Ombra sadness for a moment and an old proverb that his dad always told him comes to mind. <Things don't last forever wither they are nice or new but true friendships will last a lifetime, so surround yourself with true friends and not objects! Something my father would always tell me before he passed away.> there a moment where Ryan is silent after he mentions his dad before he speaks again. <Anyway though, even if you can't use the phone someone else could if an emergency situation arises where someone needed to be reached, better safe than sorry I always say.>

Ryan begins to pet the cat on his lap as it is quite relaxing for him, he really loves animals. <So is there any good show you like to watch?>
