Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare is a transcendent experience. Either by choice or by design, there's only four other people at the sitting (likely because of the profile of the clients. The other two are couples and look quite monied as well.) That means Emery gets to bend the ear of the chef as he pumps out perfect dish and perfect dish in a two and a half hour gourmet marathon. Danny for his part, lets Emery enjoy. The menu is seafood forward which means he can be a pescatarian for the evening. Normally this kind of experience does not allow for substitutions, but one course of bone marrow and another of rabbit are substituted for vegetable dishes. When you're a billionaire, you get substitutions at the chef's table.

From start to finish, it's three hours. The plan was to go for a drink afterwards, but it seemed too much effort when Gramercy has a fully-stocked bar. Plus, there was already a lot of alcohol to pair with every single course. So the sedan drops them back and Danny shrugs off his wool peacoat. "My body doesn't know what to do with all that food after months of veganism." He pats his stomach and burps a very expensive burp.

When asked to go out to dinner, Emery at first thought it was a request to go out and buy things for dinner but he still wore a pair of pressed dark blue tailored trousers and a crisp black button down and brushed his hair back into a neat bun. There is a bit of awe and disbelief but deep appreciation for the efforts and by the time they arrive back at 'home' Emery just smiling gently and unbuttoning his own dark blue peacoat and offering an arm to take Danny's as well. "Take it easy, I will make sure to make ye some tea tommorow to settle your stomach luv." There is a very long pause. "Th-thank ye lad that was….amazin'."

* * *

"Emery, this is a night off." Danny's a little drunk, from the way he has to try twice to take Emery's coat from him. He'll do the hanging, thankyouverymuch! Even though it takes him a minute to find the hangars and the right place in the closet. "I'm glad you enjoyed. I'd heard really good things and I figured you out of everyone would appreciate it the most."

* * *

Emery chuckles softly and finally just allows the younger man to take his coat and his eyebrow raises a fraction as he holds up his hands apologetically. "Aye, almost forgot. Off duty." He cracks a dimpled grin before bowing his head in agreement. "It was very fine repast, talented chef and overall good experience. Ye spoiled me tonight Danny boy."

* * *

"Well you've been spoiling me since you came on-board," says Danny. He heads towards the living room and where the bar has been set up for the holidays. "You want a drink? I can pretend I know how to do more than pour something into a glass."

* * *

"Whiskey, however ye want to make it." Emery replies smoothly as he follows after Danny, settling down on the sofa and runningnhis fingers through his hair, tugging the hair tie out and combing his finger through then longish locks.

* * *

"Whiskey poured into a glass it is," says Danny as he goes to do just that. He does seem more like himself tonight. He's spent an awful lot of time meditating or bent over a desk, deep in research that he doesn't like to talk about. "I uh…you may have noticed I've been a little off lately." He pours a glass for himself as well.

* * *

Emery blinks a few moments and holds out to receive his glass when it is passed over and he smiles gently before nodding quickly. "Hm? A little off?" He hmms softly before chuckling. "I have noticed ye were doing what you needed to do…for you."

* * *

"It's this business with my dad," says Danny as he hands over a glass to Emery. "The more I dig into it, the more it looks like he was learning quite a bit about K'un L'un. What his notes don't say is why. It's not his thoughts, it's just bits about artifacts and documents."

* * *

Emery takes a long sip of his drink, nose wrinkling appreciatively at the smoothness. He is listening though, head tilting to the side and he crosses his legs and gives a small nod. "What are you looking for then boyo?"

* * *

"I'm afraid my dad crossed the wrong people and that's why the plane went down." Danny swallows and looks into his glass. "And…I'm worried it might have been someone in K'un L'un that did it." He lets that hang for a moment, staring into the liquid, feeling fuzzy from the booze and overfull from the dinner.

* * *

Emery is quiet for a moment before he takes another sip of his drink, just a tiny quirk of an eyebrow in response as he mmhms softly. "And how does that make ye feel? Angry? Scared? Confused?"

* * *

"All three?" says Danny with a sigh. "I feel like…who I thought my dad was isn't who he actually was." He glances towards the Christmas tree that has a few Rand family ornaments tucked in amongst the high end baubles from the decorator.

* * *

Emery ahhs softly and takes another sip of his drink as he sighs softly, "I know that your da loved ye. And that…now ye have to decide if you get to know him through these notes and who he really was, you will get to know him as a man and that means..lad…sometimes uncovering more than you were expecting."

* * *

"I know that the reality of a person is always messier than the memory." Danny might seem naive, but he was trained in philosophy and with meditation and self-reflection a part of his everyday life. There's wisdom in that labradoodle package. "But it's hard when those memories are all I have of him."

* * *

"You don't have to ever replace the good memories. Ye have to hold on to them even tighter luv. Keep your memories of your father and keep them separate from the Mr Rand." Emery takes a long pull of his drink. "So. What do ye plan to do with this information?"

* * *

"Keep digging," says Danny. "Keep…pulling at strings until I find some truth." He pauses, smiles a little and shakes his head. "Sorry. We were having a nice relaxing evening and I pulled it back towards my drama. There's always something, isn't there?"

* * *

Emery laughs and snorts softly, moving anhand to cover his and roll his eyes. "There is always something, aye. But it does not make me feel any less relaxed. Just..be careful, okay Master Danny?"

* * *

"If this is something that got my father killed…if he dropped it for a reason…" Danny nods slowly in agreement. "Don't worry. I'll be careful."

* * *

Emery mmhms and then pushes himself to his feet. "Since its me day off, I will be a bit naughty and teach ye how to make the perfct spikd hot chocolate. It will be totally vegan, and then we can eat the marshmellows right out the bag." He walks past him, gently squeezing his shoulder before winking and continuing on.
