** OOC DATE: FRI DEC 06 2019 **
Sam Guthrie has came back to the mansion recently. He spent some time earlier today seeing if he could get his old room back, and putting stuff away. He is now just walking through the place, getting a feel of things, loking at pictures of students, seeing what might have changed with any recent mansion explosions and rebuildings.

* * *

One of the new sights of the school, a shadow in the shape of a girl, walking in good lighting to make her extremely apparent to even a casual glance, similarly wanders, though with less recalling of memory and a lot more enthusiasm regarding meeting people. Her main form of communication is by sign language, as she does not create any sounds that can be heard. Not with footsteps, not with any voice that emits.
When the shadow-girl spies Sam Guthrie, her body language conveys excitement and she approaches, bearing the universal sign language form of hello, as a wave of her hand. She turns a profile so her facial features can be made out as an outline, and she is smiling by the looks of her.

* * *

Sam Guthrie 's brow raises a bit at seeing someone new but does not seem upset. He will smile a bit at the obvious excitement, and says "Hello, new student here?" He will ask giving her a once over. He will offer his name and says "Ah'm Sam a pleasure to meet you.

* * *

The shadow of a girl bobs her head in an exaggerated manner, seeming to gaze a little more intently than many one might meet, though it's not easy to precisely tell. Her body posture shifts to express sorrow, or apology, and indicates her ears with both hands, shaking her head. It's then a smaller, similar featured but cat-shaped shadow trots into view, carrying what appears to be a ouija board in its mouth which Ombra takes in hand and offers to Sam, The cat brushes up against unfamiliar leg, of Sam.

* * *

Sam Guthrie 's brow will raise a bit, but he does squat down to take the board, and try to give the shadow cat a bit of scritching if it has material form. "Ah take it you can't talk or possible not hear…. If not hear, then Ah maybe being a bit silly here." he will hold the board out expecting the lady will use it to communicate

* * *

The board took on a complete blackness when the shadow-girl touched it. Then once she let go, back to normal. She gently scoops up the cat-shadow and with its paw, letters are chosen. M-E, slight pause of paws. O-M-B-R-A. Certainly not a perfect workaround, but works well enough. There is a bit more, spelled out with no sense of being upset. N-O… S-O-U-N-D… F-O-R… M-E

* * *

Sam Guthrie hmms and says "I take it you can hear me but not able to make noise yourself?" He hmms and nods a bit to this and says "A pleasure to meet you Ombr, Ah have been away and have just returned to the school with my sister Paige.

* * *

Watchful of Sam's face as he speaks, Ombra has the cat tap 'No', remembering the word is an option rather than spelling it out. She has the cat point at Sam's mouth. R-E-A-D-I-N… N-O-V-I-C-E. The cat seems remarkably amicable to being used as a pointing device. Not a single ear flick or tail sway, but it seems to behave like a cat does.

* * *

Sam Guthrie says, "Ahs a bit and tries to speak a bit slower and clearer. "So you read lips, interesting…. " he looks at the cat being used for pointing and says "And I take it you have issue touching normal things as well?" He will ask her, some concern for her showing on his face."

* * *

Ombra sets the cat down, which goes back to rubbing against leg and just being a very well-behaved creature. Ombra's hand moves to touch one of the pictures set on the wall, which turns it entirely black, like herself. Her hand pulls away, picture normal! She looks consdierably less at ease as she offers her hand forward, palm up, nervous like a girl trying to say hello past a heavy wall of shyness that just wasn't there until that very moment. She's worried what will be thought of her, rather than what will come of it.

* * *

Sam Guthrie will hold his hand out to her letting her make contact if she wishes not forcing it. "So when you touch something it brings it to the same shadowy relm as your part of? He hmms a bit to this and says "And if you touch something that makes noise does it go quiet when you touch it?

* * *

The nervousness seems to fade as Sam agrees, but it remains. It is Ombra's nature to worry over that, the sort of gunshyness one gains from numerous experiences. Here though, it's easier. As her hand touches Sam's, the slightest contact, Sam's world goes silent. Nothing whatsoever is heard. Not even the deafening vacuum that comes when one normally abruptly experiences silence. Hearing simply does not function, for there is nothing for it to pick up. A less noteworthy change is how Sam's body becomes blackened, just like Ombra. Just like the cat. Visually featureless, but otherwise unchanged. As Ombra draws her hand away again, restoring the sound and visibility of body, she wears the nervous look, albeit with less intensity. It's mixed with hope.

* * *

Sam Guthrie does not seem bothered by the change seems Sam has seen quite a few things over the years and this is not the wierdess one of them. He would have tried to speak to her while he was shadowed as well, and also to "think" to her to se if communication worked while both in the other form "Hmms, and says "Interesting effect your powers have, Ah.. I take it Dr. McCoy has looked into them?"

* * *

Ombra calms quickly enough when it's clear Sam is used to weird things happening. Still she trembles a little while her worry fades. There's an excited look again, the good kind of excited, and she nods rapidly, though her hand gestures to indicate it's not 100%, not steady. Incomplete? She seems to have liked meeting the doctor at any rate.

* * *

Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Out of curiousity do you think you could write on a piece of paper? Ah know you would not be able to see while your writing but might be able to work as a way if needed also

* * *

Ombra's head nods at that question, but the way she nods, it's not enthusiastic. Can, but not as simple as it seems. She beckons Sam to accompany her to some stationary that can serve as demonstration. A steady pad of papers and one pen. The pen, she takes in hand, making it shadow as she is, and uses it to write quickly, but legibly: can't touch too long
She sets the pen down back where she found it, then takes the paper she wrote on from the pad and holds it. Nothing seems to happen at first. Then, suddenly, the page is gone, seemingly pulled into her hand.

* * *

Sam Guthrie hmms a bit and says "So if you hold onto something to long it becomes part of you, unless it is a living creature, and if it is a living creature, it becomes sorta like you but different?

* * *

Ombra provides a silent clap of affirmation, a little excited again, and by the pointing that accompanies it, this seems to be a rare instance where she manages to make herself understood exactly as she intends. Almost. But she's thrilled for the moment! The cat has carried the ouija board somewhere else. The same hand that she had touched before, Ombra takes in both of hers now, bringing it up to momentarily touch her lips in a grateful gesture, with the same silencing side effect, but giving Sam that chance to test his theories. Silent voice, probably. Nothing on the telepathic front.

* * *

Sam Guthrie does not shy away from the touch and does try both and when she releases his hand will say "Thought maybe while shadow might be able to have other ways to communicate, but it does not seem so sadly." He hmms and says "Do you know if the shadow change builds up if you take time between touching something or someone?

* * *

There is a positive look of disbelief, and a little adoration about Ombra as she sees that question come up. Pen in hand, pad! 'things yes (new line) people no (new line) jackets eaten' She sets the pen down, resting her hand on the pad again after the lines are clearly read, and after about twenty seconds, her hand draws away from it and it remains black for two or three seconds. She touches it again, same twenty seconds about, it stays dark longer. She draws away from it, taking the page with her to be disposed of.

* * *

Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "So, as long as you don't hold onto a person till they would stay shadow it does not matter how often you touch them, but something about other things. he hmms and says "Have you tried a plant?" He will ask her.

* * *

Ombra seems focused on what Sam says, having a little difficulty making it all out, but at least understanding the last portion clearly. A nearby fern serves as demonstration, and she just rests her hand against it, turning the plant as expected, but nothing else touching it. She lingers. Minute passes. More than that. Her hand draws away. Plant green. The floor at her feet, which appear to be bare, also does not seem to have changed.

* * *

Sam Guthrie hmms a bit and says "Well interesting, Ah was thinking it might be something with living things able to rebuild their life glow, and thats why they do not retain the shadow change the way not living items do.

* * *

Ombra shows a shrug, expressing ignorance about the subject, and openness to the idea. She gets right on an idea then, picking up pen to scrawl in a less neat manner in her excitement, 'I like your thinking — happy to test more if you want to — lab conditions' Pen back down again, it holds the shadow a little longer than Ombra would have liked. Then she seems less dismayed about it, but remains away from the pen.

* * *

Sam Guthrie says, "Well not exactly a scientist, but Ah am willing to work with you a bit and see what we can figure out. I will ask hank for your record and see if Ah can come at it a different way than others might have."

* * *

In a form of emphasis, Ombra hovers her finger over the 'happy to test more' portion, moving to span the four words without touching. Ombra scrawls again after long enough passes to her satisfaction to help get her attention since reaching her is a little problematic. Big waving where she can see it. Also 'I see what cat sees'
