Damn. Jessica is pissed.

She went to all the trouble to go out of town for a week and a half. Visit NASA and DARPA and have a bunch of preliminary give me your ideas and what secret squirrel projects you have just to miss the whole Registration Deadline while she worked on what she is thinking of calling SWORD.

No she finds herself back in New York, lots of good things started on that front, but filing paperwork for a trip to Metropolis to corner Stark and others about private sector resources for SWORD and that means she may be in town for the start of Registration.

Still she has been out for many days. It would be good to catch up with Gwen and others before the shit hits the fan so Jess contacted Gwen, said she would pick up pizza, and did the other woman want to catch up and hang out.

"Sure, Jess," Gwen had agreed immediately when Jess offered. They got the details of the timing sorted out, though Gwen had no opinion about the pizza, and headed to Jess's place to meet up. Bingo bango. Once inside, she looks around curiously, complimenting the decor before asking about Jess's trip.

While Jess tends to spend a lot of time in the field or at the Triskelion. She does have an apartment though in Manhattan near work.

It isn't too special though, or large. She isn't Stark. Jess doesn't have a whole extradimensional brownstone in the village like a certain Doctor.

No Jess is a mid-level agent in SHIELD.

Still it is a quite nice one bedroom apartment, pretty spartan, minimalist, and clean. She doesn't have a family or a lot of clutter in her life outside work to fill it with.

"Make yourself at home." Jess notes and then thanks Gwen for the compliment on the place. "Oh.. uh…" she grabs a couple of beers from her fridge. "It wen't good actually. I'm thinking of calling it SWORD, though that does sound militant… but I had a lot of luck with NASA and DARPA.. more than I thought I would…."

* * *

Gwen waves off the beer she assumes was being offered and finds a casual seat on a counter. "Yeah? Wanna talk about it, or did you just wanna play video games and ignore the real world for a while?"

* * *

Jess puts the beer back, well the second one and peers into the fridge "Bubbly water or a soda of some sort Gwen?"

"I could talk about it…" she sets out whatever Gwen says she wants with Pizza "but also yes after food video games .. you need to take it easy on me because I am not ..versed in games." she opens the piza box and then continues "Just we have the capability to pull together an orbital facility I think… won't be cheap bt that and a series of early warning sattelites."

* * *

Gwen waves off the second offer of drinks as well, and nods at Jess. "Cool. I'm glad you got so much done, Jess." She looks closely at the older woman, sensing some undercurrent in her but not knowing how to navigate it right now, so she changes the subject. "Did you get to do any tourist stuff while you were away? Take in sights, or whatever?"

Gwen's never been a tourist, so she doesn't actually know what that entails.

* * *

Jess snags a slice of pizza and blinks at Gwen and the tourist question, she doesn't really grok it for a moment. "Well… I guess a little. I spent the weekend in DC between meetings yesterday. I hadn't been there so I did a bit of looking around the Smithsoian. Mostly the Air and Space Museum. It seemed topical."

"I can't believe they pushed the deadline back.. I'm stuck here filing paperwork to justify a trip to Metropolis to speak with Stark and Luthor and others about private sector and.. ugn it is going to happen in a few days."

* * *

Gwen nods at Jess, a little downcast. "Yeah. But you'll do what you can to fight it, and so will I. I think right now the plan has to be minimizing suffering from the registration." She selects a slice and toys with it, not yet biting. "You're going on another trip? What for, getting tech for the SWORD thing?"

* * *

"Minimizing suffering would be good. Very good. I just don't know how other than keeping my friends secrets Gwen…" Jess just rubs her face. "I wish I could convince the government not to do this but it is the voters as well … uhgn."

"Right… okay… I mean yes maybe the private sector can help with technology and supply it.. not defense contractors only of course." Jess shrugs "But most of the tech the government uses comes from private sector."

* * *

Gwen noms while Jess talks. "I don't know how either," she admits. "I guess it's just helping people who need help, when you can help them. Does going on these trips make you feel better?"

* * *

"That.. is a bit of an odd question. It keeps me from being fired for not arresting people doing the right thing and helping people… I suppose that makes me feel better. It is .. honesty avoidant behavior and the psyches at work would probably be pretty irritated at all of it."

"Still though I think the SWORD stuff is quite good for humanity and protecting the earth.. so it isn't all me being a coward right?"

* * *

Gwen frowns. "Why do you keep calling yourself a coward? Do you know there's a better course and you're just not taking it?"

* * *

"I could quit." there is a shrug there. "I could not run away from this and avoid it. Then I think though who would that really help. How can I look out for my friends." and Jess grabs another slice. "Man… life is simpler busting international spy rings than trying to make friends and have a life." a smile "So.. teach me to play this game?"

* * *

Gwen smiles at Jess, a little sadly, mostly genuinely. "Sure. Let's get you started."
