A day off, a day without explosions, maniacs, costumed madmen or monsters rampaging…it was awesome. Jesse had been to the lab, she'd even gotten her work done. Strange for the blonde, how a girl with superspeed could still run out of time on projects. Now however? She was simply enjoying herself in the outdoor seating of a small pizza restaurant, humming lightly while she tapped her fingers beneath the table waiting for her order to finish being made. Quality took time and all, but damn if Jesse wasn't hungry as hell right now!

Gwen has been eating too much canned soup heated on a hot plate in a van lately. She'd rather starve than deal with one more tin of Campbell's chicken and some-strange-shape-of-noodle. So, after a lot of hunting and a lot of picking up change from places, change she's assiduously counting in the palm of one hand as she keeps checking the price of a slice as if she thinks she can make there be more money in her hand than there actually is, she slumps her shoulders and keeps looking around for coins on the sidewalk or in the gutter (she's not so proud she won't go there) to bolster the money she has.

More tapping, more humming, Jesse's wait seemed almost never-ending, but thankfully distraction was on her way in the form of Gwen. There's no missing that look, that 'student shuffle' of someone trying to do the maths on a meal wanted vs a meal affordable. She'd seen it plenty. "They do a really good cheese and garlic?" she offers, speaking up as Gwen draws closer, perhaps a little out of the blue for a stranger. "It's a buck and a half cheaper?"

Gwen looks up, startled. Her cheeks color faintly with embarrassment. "I, uh, thanks," she stammers, then clears her throat. Then, trying to act casual, like she's totally not humiliated (it conjures memories of cats who fall off a table, then start licking themselves like 'yeah, I meant to do that'), she asks, "You like the pizza here? I don't really know Metropolis." And true enough, her accent marks her as a New York girl.

"It's tasty, greasy and full of calories," Jesse answers, giving a little laugh and shrugging her shoulders. "All the things that a good pizza that's terrible enough should be." Giving a grin, the blonde at the table tilts her head to the side before glancing back towards the doorway. "Little on the slow side though but…"

There's a pause, but the young woman bites her bottom lip before gesturing to the table. "I've probably got more than I need, if you felt like sharing a slice or two." Of course, the words weren't quite true, but she wasn't without sympathy. And company might make the wait go faster.

"I'm not a local, but I'm up here every other week. Of course, New York might have bigger and better, but this'll do."

Metropolis, pizza? Kara's been in Metropolis only a few times since going off to New York and rampaging things. However, she's been zipping all over according to her Instagram account. And now, as a break, a gift to herself, she's got 3 pizzas as she's stepping out of the place. Though she eyes over in the direction of Gwen once she hears her voice and starts walking over in that direction. "Gwen!" Calls Kara as she moves on over in the direction of Gwen and seeing Jesse she smiles to the person, "Hello Citizen."

* * *

Gwen can't even manage to be surprised Kara's here. Of course she is, why wouldn't she be? She turns and waves with a brave smile that masks a stern demand her heart calm down. "Hi, Kara. Didn't expect to see you here," she says as she stuffs her hands back into her jacket pockets. She nods at the pile of boxes. "What's the occasion?"

* * *

Well…now Jesse didn't have to feel quite so bad about the order she was about to pick up. Of course, the greeting of 'Citizen' has her blinking and tilting her head to the side. "Citiz-…okay," she blinks again before glancing towards Gwen. Apparently this wasn't weird? At least, not to someone she knows.

"Jess," she offers in introduction before crossing her arms lightly. She really should have called ahead!

* * *

Looking between Jesse and Gwen, and Jesse and Gwen, then back to Gwen. Kara smiles and offers, "I wasn't expecting to be in Metropolis so much. Just… flying by really. Jen's doing this thing with me where we do pictures at different places, and then upload them onto the internet. I got one with Lex Corp Tower in the background, another one with some other big buildings, and then the Memorial Bridge… without the construction vehicles." She winces a little bit, scrunching up her face some, and then she gives her attention to Jesse. "Oh, nice to meet you. I'm Kara." She sticks out her hand, arm straight, kind of tensed, and forcing it a bit forward.

* * *

"Hi, Jess. I'm Gwen," offers the third blonde when Jess and Kara are done with introductions, hand offered for a shake. She shakes limply, if only to hide her spider-strength. "Thanks for the offer of pizza, Jess, but I'll be okay. I'm tired of mooching off people. So is it just your lunch, or…?"

* * *

Jesse had been around super-humans for plenty of her life, but that didn't make it any easier to spot them under the guise of normalcy. Of course, Kara did still come off as a little 'odd' to the young woman. "I get it, sorta like tourist shots?" she quizzes after the handshakes are shared between the trio. Tilting her head to the side, she actually rises a little onto her toes to try and peek into the store at her order in progress.

* * *

To Gwen, Kara wonders, "Are you not eating? You want a pizza? I don't even need to eat, but I like to, and it was a good day. You know? Got a lot of buzz running up the … " Pausing, she squints a little bit, "Or was it, that I have … Jen would know. She uses all sorts of slang that I just don't get still." To Jesse she kind of cants her head to the side a bit, and looks a tad confused, "Tourist shots? Not exactly. More like, putting my best foot forward hah! That one." Turning to Gwen she practically bounces with excitement, "Learning the culture. Boom. Another one!" She giggles, as she sits down at whatever table is nearest and settles her pizzas on that table, "Jen would be so excited for me."

* * *

Gwen nods in support of Jesse's question rather than as an answer to it, and mostly manages to keep the sourly jealous look off her face at Kara's self-description. "No, thanks, I'm good. I don't want to take any more of what's yours than I already have. Uh, good job learning idioms."

* * *

It didn't take a genius intellect to figure ut the gist of the oddity here, but that didn't mean she was going to start pointing it all out or asking questions. Instead? Jess just gives a little nod of 'okay' and opens her mouth to say more, but finally her order was ready. With a happy noise, she darts into the store again and returns with box of pizza of her own a moment later, one generally sized for more than simply one person. At least she'd managed to make the speed look 'normal'!

* * *

With a quick opening of one box, "What? Mine? It's food. It isn't anyone's. And it's meant to be shared. That's why they cut them into triangles." Offers Kara, "It's for easy picking up, and then I can share my pizza. If you don't eat some, I'll cry." Kara states, looking over at Gwen with a serious look over her shoulder. "I've heard that's a horrible thing to do. Make a person cry. So, sit, so I can give you some pizza and then it's yours, and you can stop worrying so much." She looks over to Jesse as she moves quickly, and she doesn't even seem to respond like its odd, sniffing the air she ooohhs, "Good choice for toppings. If you want some of my pizzas you can have some as well. Jess."d

* * *

"I mean, I don't think pizza really counts as food," Gwen says in her odd mixture of wryness and earnestness. "It's ten thousand calories of carbs and fat. As a luxury or possibly a form of poison depending on how you plan to use it, I think it belongs to the person buying it."

There's a beat, and a 'please god no' expression crosses Gwen's face, but she banishes it quickly and keeps her mouth shut. She will not be the one to ask if Kara actually paid for the pies or if she just took them.

* * *

"Ten thousand calories?" Kara questions as she scans over her pizza before she mentions, "I'm seeing approximately 2987 from the size. There's some small variance because the cheese is harder to quantify." And she looks back to Gwen with a bit of a confused look. "What if you bought the pizza from me? Give me some of those coins you have, and then I can give you a pizza? Also, currency is pretty much the downfall of all societies. I really hate that it's used here so much." A soft shrug goes to her shoulders, "Hopefully this Instagram is useful, I'm running out of the greenish cotton paper so many of you worship." She rolls her eyes a bit more and starts chewing down on a slice of pizza, it's consumed pretty quickly… well, for a normal person at least.

* * *

Gwen's hands remain deep in her pockets. "It's hyperbole," she explains patiently to Kara. "And yeah, money really is evil, but until everyone decides to get on board with getting rid of it, we're pretty much stuck. Where's all your money going? I thought you had a job."

* * *

With a questioning glance, Kara looks up at Gwen, "A job?" She wonders before adding, "Not, really. I've been looking for one. Jen had this great idea about photos. Though … it started on the wrong side of that idea, and then got better." She smiles a bit before turning her head, and getting a serious look, "Hey. Share these pizzas or give them away. I gotta go." She grabs another piece of pizza and starts eating it as she moves off at a good running clip, and then moments later a sonic boom is heard up in the sky.

* * *

Sonic booms and a complete lack of subtlty…and the fact that Jess can see things move in crazy speed. A raise of an eyebrow, the blonde reaches for a slice of her own and takes a bite before giving a little giggle. "Your uh…friend needs to work on the whole 'less obvious' thing…"

* * *

Gwen sighs and shakes her head. "She won't. It's not her way. And really," Gwen admits reluctantly, "I can't blame her. Asking her for subtlety is asking her to deny who she is, to live in the closet to make things easier for the people around her. That's a really selfish ask when you think about it." Gwen shrugs, hands slipping from her pockets now that Kara isn't here to try to shove pizza into them. "Good for her living her life., I say."

* * *

"Oh I get it," Jesse comments, shrugging his head and taking another bite for herself and then swallowing the mouthful. Lazily, she turns the box towards the other girl, a gesture of her hand renewing her own slightly tamer offer before she shrugs her shoulders. "But it works both ways too. Advise given and all that, I'm sure she'd hate it if people coming after her chase down the ones she cares for."

* * *

Gwen shrugs in response. It's a chorus of shrugs, it is. "I suppose she trusts that the people who would think about coming after the ones she cares about have thought about Kara coming after the ones they care about in retaliation."
