Lex told Gwen to come back in a week, and seemed to mean it, but the call from Lexcorp Labs came just a day later, so Gwen shrugged and went. It wasn't the kind of lab/showroom they had at Lex's main tower, less flashy and performative, but Gwen felt more at ease there because of it.

She strolled in wearing her civvies, got directions, and headed to Liz's area. "Hi," she greeted with a handshake when finally there. "I got your message, obviously. What's up? Did you need to do tests on me?"

* * *

"Probably should," Liz will relate, gesturing wildly with her left hand in order to emphasize her words. She is dressed in a cableknit burgundy sweater, black slacks, and a labcoat, and paces back and forth as she works, checking clipboards and computers at a fairly stunning pace.
"What have they checked out so far? The recrods are a mess. Did we get a grip strength test? Throwing? …Anything, actually?" The speedster moves about the office in a slightly spastic, driven way that sees her accomplishing more work in minutes than anyone else must have done the entire day before.

* * *

"No tests," Gwen admits, shrugging our of her denim jacket and letting it drape over her left arm. "Dr. Luthor saw me do a flip, and said that was all he needed to know. I do have some phone video of me testing my marksmanship and impact, but I don't have instrumentation to back it up, so I eventually stopped making those vids." She sounds a little embarrassed. "And those tests were with a Super Ball anyway, not discs, so that's probably also a factor."

* * *

"I mean, rigth now we're going to throw a frisbee." A beat. "But we're going to /pretend/ that it's one of your discs, and there are weights on it so… ANyway." Liz reaches out to pat Gwen on the arm briefly and then she's off across the lab. On the far end is what appears to be a sort of makeshift version of the ring toss carnival game, except instead of jugs there are sensors, and the total distnace is much further.
"If you don't mind I should put soem lectrodes on you, monitor vitals and brian activity… But if that's a problem we can just throw some stuff and see if we break anything, right?" Liz shrugs. "Just depends on how thorough you want to be with all of this ,to be honest. You know, i've been working on a few other things you might find interesting if- nevermind." The rapid fire staccato manner of speech that Liz uses is entirely intelligible, but for most people it would be rather jarring.
How is it even possible to clearly conjugate so many words so quickly?

* * *

"Sure thing, Doctor," Gwen agrees. She's no speedster, but she's fast and she's a musician, so following people's speech is pretty in her wheelhouse. She submits to the electrodes easily, accepts the weighted Frisbee, but doesn't throw it immediately. She just hefts it for a while instead, testing its weight, miming a few throws to get used to it. While she does, she asks, "Other things, huh?"

* * *

"Liz is fine. I guess doctor is more approrpiate, but you know." The electrodes are being placed while Gwen hefts the frisbee, on her head and arms, for the most part. "It's the same weight as the projected discs," Liz will note cheerfully as she works. "Just to get a baseline on what is going on. There we go! All done." The speedster was, it seemed, done in literally a couple of seconds.
"Other things. Yeah. You know. Stuff you could throw. Body armour that wouldn't get in the way of your acrobatics, maybe…?" She gives a slow shrug of her shoulders then. "Really, you can ask me for whatever and I can try, you know?"

* * *

Gwen nods. "Okay. Not totally used to the feel of this yet, so I'm gonna try to hit one of the nearest pegs." She lifts her right hand to her left shoulder (if she had a pistol in her hand, she'd look like she was posing for a cowboy movie poster), and gives it a hard throw. The disc flies true and smacks one of the nearest ring toss pegs, hard enough to rock it in its moorings and bounce the disc halfway down the impromptu firing range.
"I guess I do need a costume, but I haven't given that tons of thought," she admits after the throw. "I want to hide my identity, of course, but it's hard to think of a statement I want to make, you know?"

* * *

"Does it have to make a statement? I mean… I guess that depends on what you want to be as a hero, right? I can't really… help… with that one. Not yet, at least. I might thin kof something though." Liz squints over at the range, noting where he frisbee landed, and gives a brief nod. Then she darts across the room to one of the computers.
"Try to throw it farther," the scientist suggests after a moment. "As far as you can? There are, um. A few more of those stacked to your left, on the big table." They are, as it turns out, underneath a stack of papers, just piled there. Waiting. This lab is slightly chaotic, even if the most important workspaces are neatly organized. Probably, whatever was left out of place was deemed irrelevant at the time.

* * *

Gwen nods. "Doesn't matter if it hits anything? Okay." Her arm crosses her body and she throws it sidelong, hard. The firing range is not long enough for it to go as far as it might have. While she selects another disc, Gwen explains, "I need it to project a certain image, is all. Not someone I am, but someone I need others to see me as. I'm still trying to figure it all out."

* * *

"I'm not even sure how a costume will do that so I might not be the best one to ask." The small woman takes a deep breath and slowly shakes her head as she considers this for a moment. "Hm. Did you ask our mutual friend about it yet?" She begins to type, furrowing her brow slightly as her attention shifts to the screen. "We'll throw a few more in here but we need to head outside."

* * *

"No, she's been busy lately," Gwen explains. "(More hard throws without aiming at anything? Okay, here they go.) Besides… I like her, but I don't think I could ever do her fashion sense. You're actually a lot closer to my style than she is.
"I guess for now, we should just focus on function, and maybe that'll give me ideas for what to do visually?" she asks after she's thrown all the remaining discs.

* * *

"Awesome! Strength test. I've got a pretty good idea how hard you can throw now," Liz will state brightly. "LEt's do this again, but- like, aim at the targets. We have ten pegs. Aim for number 5, I guess?" Then she takes off to collect the frisbees from the course. She will return just a few seconds later. "My sense of style, huh…?" Liz looks down at herself. "Office nerd librarian chic?"

* * *

Gwen is gifted, but gifts can only replace skill up to a certain point. As Captain America would no doubt tell you, you need to know the weight, the dynamics, the character of your chosen weapon, so what follows is a montage of Gwen failing to hit the peg for a while. She tries to distract herself from the embarrassment by asking, "Sure, I love your look. It fits you. I could never pull it off, but it's still closer to my style than hers. Do you not like your look?"

* * *

"I guess I… Didn't really figure anyone else would?" Liz shrugs slowly at that point, apparently helpless to descrbbe precisely what her thought entails there. But then she'll continue in a chipper tone. "Here you are." THe firsbees are set down beside Gwen. "Let's do this again."

* * *

It takes practice to get the hang of it, but eventually, Gwen does. Her spider-strength gives her an arm like a rifle, so all she needs is the practice to back it up. After an hour, she can hit pegs on command, and even bounce discs off walls to reliably hit a designated target. She chats with Liz while she practices, trying to learn more about her, enjoying her odd company until it's finally time to wrap up the experiment.
