Worthington Industries released a statement yesterday evening confirming that the current chairman of the board, Warren Worthington III, has suffered an injury necessitating the removal of his wings.

Worthington, 30, revealed his status as a mutant late last year, in a press conference prior to the passage of the Metahuman Registration and Public Safety Act. Worthington's registered mutation included a pair of wings, and a healing factor in his blood which has been under study by experts as a potential source of new medical treatments.

It is not known why Worthington's own healing factor was not able to prevent the loss of his wings.

This development is a significant blow added atop what has already been a period of profound uncertainty for Worthington Industries (NYSE: WI, NASDAQ: WIND), which has seen a sharp drop in the markets ever since Worthington's announcement of his mutant status. Worthington — the great-grandson of WI's original founder, and the current head of the Worthington Family Trust which owns controlling interest in WI — has been a heavy influence in the direction of the corporation as a whole ever since his father's death in 2014, but it is unknown if he will continue in any leadership capacity going forward.

CEO Cameron Hodge has assured investors and shareholders that any changes in WI leadership will be handled in as smooth a manner as possible.
